Open house days: How to get the most out of them?

Ambassadrice présentant les programmes lors de la JPO

You have marked the date on your calendar. Open house day is when you will finally be able to set foot on campus, talk to students, and get a real idea of what to expect. Here is how to make the most of those few hours.

Before you arrive: Register and prepare

The first essential step is to register on Eventbrite. It is free and will allow you to access the School's premises as an external visitor.

Check the presentation schedule to find the ones that match your profile so you can plan your visit. Are you in your final year of high school? Attend the conference on undergraduate programs. Are you finishing a postsecondary preparatory or bachelor's degree program? Attend the presentation on our Programme Grande École master’s degree.

Feel free to consult the brochures in advance. You can obtain them by filling out the forms available on each program page of our website. Prepare your questions in advance: note down what catches your eye in the brochures and on the website, as well as any points you would like to clarify.

During your visit

Attend presentations

Take notes during the presentations—not just on what is said, but also on points to explore further. Does a figure catch your eye? Does a specialization attract your attention? Make a note of it so you can discuss it with our teams and students.

Talk to the student ambassadors

Student ambassadors are there to answer your questions honestly. They experience on a daily basis what you are discovering in a few hours. Their opinions and feedback will give you a much more concrete picture than any brochure. Here are some examples of questions to help you get a better idea:

  • What does a typical week look like? How many hours of classes, individual work, and group work?
  • How demanding is it? Is it manageable, or do you have to be excellent in everything?
  • What clubs are there? How do you join them?
  • Internships, co-op programs—how does the School help students find opportunities?
  • What are the best options for housing? In which neighborhoods should I look?

At EM Strasbourg, students will share their experiences with you: internship opportunities nearby, the atmosphere of a medium-sized student city, and accessibility to neighboring capitals.

Explore the campus

Do not just follow the marked route. Go into the library, take a look at the group work areas, classrooms, and places where students hang out between classes. Can you imagine spending time here? Does the environment suit you?

Observe the general atmosphere: it is essential that you feel comfortable in your future school, and your impressions during this day are just as important as the information you gather about our programs.

Ask the teaching and administrative staff questions

The teaching and administrative staff will be there to answer all your questions. Feel free to ask them about:

  • The specific admission requirements for your profile
  • Financing options and available scholarships
  • Partnerships with companies and foreign universities
  • Internship and co-op opportunities
  • Specializations that particularly interest you

Do not be afraid to ask sensitive questions: the actual budget once all costs are taken into account, the financial aid available, the difficulties that some students may encounter. These are legitimate and important questions to ask in order to make your choice.

After your visit: Record your impressions

Take a few minutes when you get home to write down your impressions. What struck you, positively or negatively. These immediate feelings are valuable: they will help you see things more clearly.

Still have questions? Feel free to contact the admissions office by email or make an appointment online .

If you are still unsure, ask to come back outside of the open house days. Seeing the School on a normal day, without any special events, gives you a different perspective on student life. EM Strasbourg organizes immersions in the Programme Grande École throughout January and February.
