The Gutenberg Chairs are a scheme set up by the local authorities on the proposal of the Gutenberg Circle, to facilitate hosting researchers of international standing invited by higher education and research establishments in our region for a period of approximately one year.
All disciplinary fields are eligible.
Holders of a Gutenberg Chair benefit as such from
- a “Gutenberg Prize” of €10,000 which is awarded to them personally to facilitate their installation,
- a specific financial allocation of €50,000 allocated to their host institution and earmarked in full for the implementation of their research project.
As this endowment cannot cover the Chair holder's salary, the Chair holder will have to be remunerated by their home institution for a sabbatical year, or by the host institution(s) according to normal procedures using the support of professors' or research directors' posts or by any other means (Foundation, etc.) compatible with the rules in force.
The awarding of a Gutenberg Chair is accompanied by the credits allocated by the institution to the guest researcher being preserved and can be combined with any other aid mechanism. The selection board that evaluates the Gutenberg Chairs is an international multidisciplinary board made up exclusively of recognized personalities from the world of research.
Completed applications must be sent to the Gutenberg Circle by the heads of the institutions or teaching/research institutions concerned.
Deadline for application: May 18, 2020
