A look back on the Wine & Tourism Chair Seminar

Workshop

The research seminar held by the Wine & Tourism Chair on Thursday, February 21, 2024, enabled a dozen academics and experts from the chair to discuss current topics in the wine, tourism, and wine tourism industries.

The watchword? Sustainability.

  • QUESTION the circular economy in the wine industry with Jodie Conduit (University of Adelaide), visiting professor at EM Strasbourg.
    • Although consumers consider reducing waste and increasing recycling to be the most important activity for saving our planet, 46% declare that they do not need to change their own habits (Kantar 2020).
    • How can we engage consumers in more responsible behavior to extend the life cycle of a resource (wine), notably through better management of supplies, waste, the co-design of packaging, or wine-related services?
  • INVEST in start-ups that support the development of the wine industry with Romain Bonjean, founding partner of Xinomavro Ventures, , an independent investment fund.
    • “The wine sector is at an unprecedented turning point when it comes to adopting technologies.”
    • How can we drive investment in support of fledgling start-ups that create a more sustainable future for the global wine and beverage industry? With Winalist and Djuce in attendance.
  • UNDERSTAND regional wine tourism dynamics with Jean Baptiste Falduto, faculty member of the Université de Toulon and second-year doctoral student at CERGAM (Aix-Marseille Université Research Centre in Management).
    • “The success of complex, multi-partner governance is linked to an understanding of the activities and the roles of every stakeholder of a destination.”
    • How do tourism and wine actors collaborate to create and develop a wine tourism destination? The case of the municipality Dracénie Provence Verdon Agglomération (DPVA).
