What if Strasbourg Were the Ideal City for Your Studies?

Quartier de Strasbourg

Strasbourg is one of students’ favourite cities in France — and with good reason. A European capital, a city of art and history, and a crossroads of cultures, it brings together qualities that few French cities can offer all at once. Here’s why Strasbourg could be the ideal city for your studies.

A City on a Human Scale

Strasbourg is a city on a human scale, where it is easy to find your bearings. Its historic city centre, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Neustadt district, the banks of the Ill and the half-timbered houses of Petite France make it one of the most beautiful cities in France.

Compact and easy to get around, Strasbourg is perfect for exploring on foot or by bike. Its many parks and riverside quays invite you to take a stroll, while the city offers plenty to fill your free time: cinemas, the opera, theaters, museums, festivals, restaurants and bars all contribute to a lively student experience.

Getting Around with Ease

In Strasbourg, getting around is never a constraint. The tram network is extensive, reliable and serves the whole city. The city also has a strong cycling culture, with suitable infrastructure and self-service bikes available from €54 per year.

Strasbourg is also well connected beyond the city itself. Germany can be reached by tram from the city centre. The Vosges mountains and the Black Forest are accessible by train for a day of hiking. Paris is only 1 hour 50 minutes away by TGV, as are several major nearby European cities by train.

Finding Accommodation without Compromise

Strasbourg has a rare advantage: its CROUS university residences are located right in the city centre, very close to EM Strasbourg. The housing market remains accessible, and even neighborhoods further from the centre are well served by public transport. Shared accommodation is very common, often chosen as much for meeting new people as for sharing costs. The cost of student life in Strasbourg also remains lower than in Paris, Lyon or Bordeaux.

A City Open to the World

Strasbourg welcomes more than 60,000 students, nearly 20% of whom come from abroad. At EM Strasbourg, one in three students is international — a reflection of the deeply European DNA of both the School and the city.

More broadly, Strasbourg is a multicultural city shaped by French, German and European influences. Its cuisine, renowned far beyond the region’s borders, its warm sense of hospitality and its beer culture — best enjoyed on a terrace — are some of the most enjoyable expressions of this identity. For students looking to develop an international profile, it is the ideal setting.

An Environment that Opens Doors

Beyond its quality of life, Strasbourg offers a strong base for opportunity. Home to the European Parliament, the Council of Europe and the European Court of Human Rights, the city holds a unique position in France on the international stage.

Located at the heart of the Upper Rhine, one of Europe’s most dynamic economic regions, Strasbourg benefits from a rich ecosystem made up of major international companies such as Puma, Mars and Bugatti, SMEs and European institutions. For business school students, this means real opportunities in an environment naturally oriented towards the international market.

And for even more opportunities, Paris is only 1 hour 50 minutes away by TGV. Completing your work-study placement in the capital while studying in Strasbourg is therefore entirely possible.
